We're very glad to have you here and thus, wanted to create this guide to aid new players in their journey. More in-depth information will be available via clickable links, where applicable.
What is Chicago Rum?
Chicago Rum is a browser based online Mafia game where players compete against each other to earn money, rank up, gamble using in-game funds, work cooperatively with other players, and engage in PVP.
Currency and Ranking
Before activities are explained, we'll provide a brief overview of the different currencies available on Chicago Rum and how they involve gameplay. We'll also dive into the ranking system.
Currently, there are two main currencies in Chicago Rum, those are Cash and Gold.
Cash is a currency which players are generally able to earn through successful completions of various activities in-game. Having cash allows the player to do a variety of things in-game, including purchasing better equipment and items, gambling, bootlegging, and purchasing weapons or protection.
As players earn increasing amounts of cash, their wealth status will increase. Find more info about that here. But briefly, there are ten wealth statuses currently.
Gold is the other currency available in Chicago Rum, it is considered the more premium currency, as it is generally only available for purchase in the store for real-world money.
Players are much more empowered with gold, as they're able to use it to obtain powerful in-game buffs found in the gold store. A few examples of these include being able to instantly obtain cash, resetting travel cooldowns, or instantly breaking yourself out of jail. A more in-depth guide on gold and buffs can be found here.
In addition to these buffs, gold may also be used to purchase much better weapons, protection, and garages for GTA Vehicles.
Ranking is one of the most important objectives in Chicago Rum, as it allows the player to grow stronger and have more opportunities afforded to them. The primary way of ranking for the new player will be attempting activities like crimes, burglaries, and grand theft autos.
Attempting these activities, generally even if those attempts are unsuccessful, will award XP (experience points). After gaining a certain amount of XP, the player will rank up to the next rank. Players can always check their progress to the next rank by going to the top right side bar on desktop or in the top bar on mobile.
All new players will start at the Package Boy rank and work their way up through 14 other ranks. The ranks are as follows
- Package Boy
- Crook
- Thief
- Gangster
- Soldier
- Enforcer
- Local Boss
- Regional Boss
- Boss
- Godfather
- Don
- Grand Don
- Kingpin
- Capo
- Capo Di Tutti
Every rank below Capo Di Tutti has a set XP requirement. The final rank, Capo Di Tutti, is different: only 10 players can hold it at a time. Reach Capo, pass its XP requirement, and you will claim a seat as soon as one comes free.
Beginner Friendly Activities
- Crimes
- Burglaries
- Grand Theft Auto
- Bootlegging
Crime
Crime is a relatively easy activity for Chicago Rum. To begin, players should navigate to the Crimes Page.
To start out with, all players will have one crime available to them. Clicking the commit button will allow the player to make an attempt at that specific crime. A great number of crimes may be attempted in a quick time, but there is a limiting factor. Energy functions as a charged ability. Players must have at least 5 energy available to commit a certain crime. A maximum of 100 energy may be stored up at a time. Energy recharges at a constant rate of 5 energy per 30 seconds.
All crime attempts have a chance of the player getting busted. This will result in them being sent to the jail for a certain period of time.
While in jail, players cannot do any activities. To get out of jail, players can either wait to serve their sentence, attempt to bust themselves, or be busted out by another player. Players can only bust themselves in minimum security, and unsuccessful bust attempts may result in a higher security level.
As players attempt more and more crimes successfully, their chances of being busted will go down dramatically. To unlock new crimes, players must level up and get to a new rank.
All crime attempts will award the player with a small amount of Rank XP. Successful attempts will reward the player with more Rank XP and some cash.
Burglary
Burglary is another activity which is beginner friendly. To begin, navigate to the Burglary Page.
Burglary is similar to crimes, with a few distinct differences that we'll get into later.
Like crimes, burglary operates a charged ability system which is independent from Energy. Nerve is the charged ability system for Burglary. Each Burglary will require at least 5 nerve to complete. Players can bank up to 100 nerve at a time, and it recharges at a constant rate of 5 nerve per 30 seconds.
All players will start out with one burglary available. To unlock new ones, players must make repeated attempts at their current burglary. A new burglary is unlocked once the completion bar of the player's most current burglary is filled all the way up.
All burglary attempts will reward completion and a small amount of rank xp, but successful ones will also reward cash.
Burglary utilizes a slightly more advanced form of progression which incentivizes players to fully complete each unique burglary. Newly unlocked burglaries will reward higher amounts of Cash and Rank XP for successful attempts.
In addition to unlocking progression towards new burglary locations, players will also have the ability to unlock new burglary categories. A new category is unlocked once the player fully levels up each burglary in their current category. Newer categories of burglary will also offer higher rewards.
Grand Theft Auto
Grand Theft Auto, commonly referred to as GTA, is a different activity within Chicago Rum that beginners may also enjoy. The objective is not too dissimilar to Burglary or Crimes. Players must attempt to steal vehicles and sell them at a profit.
To begin with, all players will begin at Level 1 within Grand Theft Auto. This will allow the player to have one location available to them to try and steal cars from. Players can make an attempt by clicking the commit button.
Unlike in crimes or burglaries, there is no charged ability feature in GTA. Each location will have a set cool down timer before another attempt can be made.
An attempt at Grand Theft Auto may reward the player with the following
- A car based on the tier rating of the location where the attempt was made
- XP
- GTA Progression
Players may rank up to Level 5 within GTA, each new level will afford the player an opportunity to steal more valuable cars.
By default, stolen cars are stored on the street. This leaves them vulnerable to being stolen again or seized by the police. To avoid this, players may purchase a garage using in-game currency here. Vehicles stored in a garage cannot be stolen or seized by the police.
In order to sell a car, players must bring the heat level of their car down to 1. When the car is freshly stolen, the heat level is 3. Players must transport the car to a new city and swap the plate in order to sell it. This can be done in the garage. Also in the garage, players have the option to repair any damage to their vehicle, which increases the sell value. It's always worth it to repair the damage.
Bootlegging
Bootlegging was a hallmark characteristic of the prohibition era. Despite being illegal, demand for alcohol was still great. We've created a way for players to engage in this here in Chicago Rum.
By navigating to the Bootlegging page, players have the ability to purchase units of liquor using in-game cash.
The value of each type of alcohol is displayed for the player's current city in the bootlegging page. The objective is to purchase the liquor at a lower price than it is sold for.
Every week on Monday at midnight in-game time, the liquor prices reset. Each city and each type of alcohol will have a different price. Players can keep the alcohol in their inventory for as long as they like.
Additionally, players are able to transport alcohol with them to new cities via the Train Station. But be careful, there's a chance players transporting liquor by train may be caught by the police, sent to jail, and have their liquor seized!
