Gaining More Experience

As players play Chicago Rum more, they'll want to expand and explore newer features. Our intermediate guide will help guide them to do just that.

This guide will help intermediate level players explore some of the following features.

  • Bootlegging Production
  • Gambling
  • Cooperative Play
  • City Hall
  • The Bank
  • Escrow
  • The Marketplace

Bootlegging Production

Our previous guide for beginners explained the basics of Bootlegging. However, its important to know there is quite a bit more to this feature.

Players are able to own their own alcohol still and produce moonshine.

To begin, players should navigate to the Bootlegging Production page and begin the special mission. This special mission will require the player to help some characters escape from lengthy prison sentences. This may take quite a bit of time.

If the players successfully busts these players, they will then be guided on how to set up their own alcohol still.

As of now, players are only allowed to have one still at a time and it is only available or accessible in one city. The still can be moved once a week for free, players can move it any number of times for a fee.

After the still has been established and the player is in the same city, production can begin by clicking the Start Production button. Before production begins, the rate of production and any maintenance fees will be disclosed. Once production begins, a timer will appear showing how much long is left until the full batch is complete and how many units have been produced so far. Players can stop production at anytime to obtain the units they have produced so far.

It will not always be smooth sailing though. Occasionally, there will be random events which occur that disrupt production such as police raids or maintenance requirements. If these occur, players should follow the requirements listed on the message to get their stills back up and running.

Moonshine is the type of alcohol produced by the stills, once production finishes or is stopped, the produced units will be added to the player's inventory automatically. This is considered to be the same type of moonshine which is also available for sale in the Bootlegging Inventory Page. Players are able to transport their produced alcohol for sale in different cities in the same way as regular bootlegging, but remember, the same risks also apply.

To make bootlegging a more dynamic activity, several Upgrades have been put into place for both carrying capacity and the still.

By default, players are only able to carry 50 units of alcohol. Upgrades to this limited capacity can be purchased in the Bootlegging Capacity Page. Some upgrades may be purchased simply by using cash, while others may require a challenge to be completed or a premium currency.

Like with capacity, upgrades are also available to make stills more efficient. They can be viewed in the Still Upgrades Page. These upgrades may reduce maintenance costs, increase the revenue earned from produced alcohol, or enable your still to produce more units at a time.

Gambling

Gambling is one of the hall mark features of Chicago Rum. Each city will have a variety of player owned casinos where anyone is able to gamble at. The games available in Chicago Rum are,

  • Blackjack
  • Horse Racing
  • Roulette
  • Keno
  • Jacks or Better
  • Poker*

Poker is distinguished because it is not a player owned institution.

Unless otherwise disclosed, the rules of these games mirror the real life version. Players are only able to gamble using in-game currency and are not able to cash out for any exchange of real world currency.

Property owners may set maximum bets at their casinos in an attempt to limit their own personal risk. Players cannot bet more than the max bet at anyone time. Property owners must have enough cash on hand to cover all wins by players at their casinos. If they don't and a player wins a bet which is more than the owner has, the owner will become bankrupted and ownership of the casino will be transferred to the bet making player.

Casino Ownership is a risky business that will be more thoroughly explored in the advanced guide. But to briefly explain, players must have enough cash on hand to cover all bets made at their casinos, if not, they will be bankrupted and lose their property. But at the same time, all revenue generated from their casinos will go directly to them, making it a potentially lucrative enterprise to have control over.

Cooperative Play

Once a player becomes more familiar with some of the basic features of Chicago Rum, they may decide to team up with other players to work together. Crews is an in-game system which allows players to do this.

Players may either opt to create their own crew for a fee, or join another player's crew for free. Players can apply to join a crew or they may be invited to do so.

Being in a crew might provide the player with a strength in numbers advantage in certain PvP scenarios which will be further explored later on. But it also allows players to pool certain resources like bullets and cash, and to work together for in-game advantages like intel sharing in the City Hall feature or competing in the weekly reputation competition.

The Crew Bank is a system which allows all crew members to commit either cash or bullets to a crew wide common fund. These resources can then be disbursed for activities as the Crew Leadership sees fit.

Each Crew will have its own hierarchy consisting of the crew leader and 3 other ranking officers. The Crew Leader is the one in charge of the entire crew and has full authority over all aspects. In the event the crew leader is dispatched, he will be replaced in this order, by the 3 ranking officers. They are the Right Hand Man, Left Hand Man, and Successor. Its important that these roles be filled by trusted crew members. The identity of the successor is kept a secret to all crew members except for the crew leader, but the role must be filled by someone in the crew.

The Reputation Competition is a weekly event in Chicago Rum where crews compete for control of a city train station. The competition utilizes a system called Reputation Points. These are earned by completing Crimes, Burglaries, and/or Grand Theft Autos in a specific city. Reputation Points are only valid in one city. In order to win the competition, crews should stay in their city for an extended period to get the most reputation points, all players who are in a crew will automatically contribute to their crew's total. The winning crew will have control over their city's train station for that week and they will earn revenue based on the number of tickets used.

City Hall is another way for crews to cooperate. Players are able to use the intel they earned to reveal the price of a type of liquor in a city of their choosing for the next week. Once revealed, all players in their crew will be able to see the price, incentivizing crew members to work together to capitalize.

City Hall

City Hall is a feature which is similar to Crimes and Burglaries, but with different rewards and different purposes.

To begin, players should navigate to the City Hall page, where they'll start out with one available objective. This can be attempted by clicking the commit button.

All attempts in City Hall will require at least 5 influence. This is the charged ability system within City Hall. Like with other features, players are able to bank up to 100 influence at a time. However, this recharges at a much slower rate compared to systems like Energy and Nerve. Influence is generated at a constant rate of 5 influence every 10 minutes.

Players can level up their objectives within City Hall by making attempts and filling the completion bar. This will unlock new experiences.

As a reward for successful completions, players have a chance of being rewarded with Intel. This is a very valuable item which can help reveal next week's liquor prices by type and city. They can also be used to obtain special buffs called Favors, a full list of the buffs can be found on the Favors Page. They include buffs like a guaranteed bust for yourself or resetting your travel timer.

[helpbox=warning]Intel doesn't last forever! It only lasts for a week, so be sure to spend it before Monday![/helpbox]

The Bank

Another useful system in Chicago Rum that more higher level players may wish to take advantage of is the bank. This feature functions similarly to a Savings Account or a Bond in real life.

By navigating to the Bank Page, players can deposit money into the bank so they can earn more money through interest. All money deposited into the bank has a maturity time of 24 hours, at which point all of the advertised interest will be available as well. The current interest rates are available on the bank page.

Another important feature of the bank is transfers. This allows players to transfer money to others for a 10% fee. Players must opt in to receive transfers in their Profile Settings Page.

Escrow

Players may use the escrow system to transfer just about any item available in-game between each other. Escrows may only take place between two players at a time.

To begin an escrow, players can either navigate to the Escrow Page and enter the username of the other player, or navigate to that player's profile and click Send Escrow. The other player must accept the escrow invite before continuing.

Once the invite has been accepted and both players are in the escrow page, any number of items can be chosen. Players may also choose to give away items if they wish. The items which can be transferred are virtually limitless, but they include things like gold, GTA Cars, and even property ownership. Once both players are finished selecting items, both can press the button to lock in the trade.

[helpbox=info]Scamming is not against Chicago Rum rules. Players should be sure they're escrowing with someone trustworthy and review the locked in item list.[/helpbox]

Once the trade has been locked in, both players should review the item list and then hit agree to finalize the trade. After finalization, the trade will be complete and the items will be exchanged almost immediately. Keep in mind, there is no way to reverse an escrow transaction.

The Marketplace

The Marketplace is something that functions similarly to escrow. It allows players to publicly list certain items for sale. Players can list the following items for sale

  • Gold
  • Bullets
  • Witness Statements (explained in the kill article)

[helpbox=info]All transactions on the marketplace are fully anonymous[/helpbox]

All of the items up for sale on the marketplace can only be purchased with cash and the seller will be charged a 10% fee if their item sells.

The marketplace is typically the only place that players will be able to obtain gold without purchasing it, unless there is an event on or a private deal has been arranged with another player via escrow. Given that, the value of some listings may be quite high.

There is no current limit on the amount of items a player can list or buy on the marketplace.
